ZF Axles

With over 100 years of innovative design, ZF as a manufacturer takes a great deal of pride in innovating drive solutions. ZF axles are a prime example of this. The ZF steering axles are designed for both maximum efficiency and durability.

While ZF axles are used in a wide variety of vehicles such as cars, trucks and SUVs, they truly come into their own when used in heavy equipment. They are most used in heavy trucks and equipment by some of the most popular brands in the world due to their superior design and cost efficiency.

From John Deere to Terex, CNH, SkyTrak, Moxy and Lull, there are many manufacturers that count on ZF axles for use in their heavy-duty equipment such as:

  • Articulating dump trucks
  • Backhoe loaders
  • Lift trucks
  • Log skidders
  • Mixer trucks
  • Motor graders
  • Telehandlers
  • Tow tractors
  • Wheeled excavators
  • Wheel loaders

ZF axles, on tractors in particular, are known for their ability to handle heavy loads, exceptional maneuverability, as well as being renowned for their precise steering geometry.

These factors combine with the fact that ZF axles are built in a modular fashion to allow vehicle manufacturers to cater to wide range of requirements in their heavy equipment.

ZF axles are also designed to require as little maintenance as possible, as well as boasting a long service life, which is a benefit for heavy machinery, both in terms of the cost of repairs and maintenance. Oil change requirements in some axles can also be up to 2000 hours, which also helps to keep maintenance costs low.

ZF focuses on keeping fuel costs down while delivering optimal efficiency. This is achieved by building the axles to keep friction low through the drivetrain while minimizing power loss.

The A 132 rear axle systems also offer benefits in regard to weight reduction. The entire axle system, taking into account all suspension and damping elements, peaks at under 1000 kilograms.

Even with this weight reduction, stability remains intact– these axles are engineered for balance and strength, and eliminate much of the rocking that comes with working in heavy machinery such as wheeled excavators.

This allows for a more comfortable ride, and also serves to facilitate the fluid shifting of ground bevel gearsets, which keeps noise down within the vehicle. These axles are known for low overall noise.

Noise reduction is also further expedited by the longer prop shafts, made possible by the smaller dimensions for installation of the axle drive unit. This in turn leads to diminished deflection angles, which keeps noise down.

All in all, there are several benefits to ZF Axles, including:

  • Standardized, easy to purchase parts helps keep repair and maintenance costs low
  • The modular design makes both repairs and customization easy
  • Highly maneuverable, with superior traction management
  • Compact design which allows for superior ground clearance
  • Excellent steering precision due to innovative steering design
  • Significant weight reduction allowing for low fuel consumption and maintenance costs
  • Exceptional durability and long life

ZF’s Axles are a constant improvement on industry standards– with their penchant for innovation in both cost and fuel efficiency, these industry leaders are constantly raising the bar.
